Kerikeri NZ - River Walk - August 2018

A lovely scenic track that is suitable for families, walkers and runners. Follow the river from the Stone House just out of Kerikeri to Rainbow Falls or start and Rainbow Falls and walk to the Stone House. There is plenty of parking at the Stone House with toilet facilities and a nice area to have a picnic. The full walk is a out and back walk, you get to enjoy the scenery both ways.

Spectacular Rainbow Falls

The walk takes you past the historic power house. When the power house first opened, it provided power to 17 families. Its worth a stop to read the information on how the power house came about and why they chose that site.

The track is easy walking, and is suitable for push chairs or families with young children. As you walk along you can listen to the river flowing by and enjoy that you are surrounded by bush most of the way. I love the way the trees grow and form, leaning over the river or growing over a rock. Nature is amazing.

Love the way trees grow and are all shapes and sizes

Included in this walk are two waterfalls, they are quite different and they are definitely worth the walk. After you get to Wharepuke Falls continue on to Rainbow Falls the second of the two waterfalls.

Wharepuka Falls

They are doing a lot of replanting of trees in this area, so please stick to the tracks to prevent Kauri dieback, cleaning your shoes to remove any soil is also important in the prevention of Kauri dieback.
