There is always a reason not to run/walk/go to the gym, I'm guilty of using these excuses myself:
Its too wet/cold
I'm too busy
I don't have time
I'm too tired
and lots more
There are loads of excuses and reasons not to do exercise. I have heard them being used and I've used them myself. Recently I used number 1. but it really is too wet and cold to go out for a walk or a run.
We have had a lot of rain in Auckland over August. The stats tell us 27 out of 31 days have been rainy. On the day where it was raining in the video above, a friend asked me to go for a run with her, but out came the excuses. There are other options, here are some ideas to turn your negative thougths into positives..
Make an arrangement to meet someone at a certain time and place. This help because you are now committed to meeting someone else and you have the added bonus of catching up with friends.
Involve your children/family in an activity that you can all join in. A bush/beach walk or a bike ride are great family activities that everyone will enjoy.
Most of the time our excuses are a mindset that we need to change. One of the best ways is to make a commitment either to yourself or someone else and that way you will do it.
Our busy lives need some extra planning if you find you don't have time for exercise. Can you walk part of the way to work or get off the bus at a couple of stops earlier than your usual stop and walk the rest of the way. If you are a morning person, get up earlier and get out and about. It really is a lovely time of day, everything so fresh and new.
If you prefer to, go with a group, there are loads of organised groups or meet-ups that you can join, they don't cost much and are quite often free. These all have various ranges of ability from slow to fast or fit to no so fit. I am a member of Auckland Joggers Club who have a range of walking and running groups, I have also joined some of the local meet-up groups, its a great way to meet new people and explore new areas.
I am stuck in an office all day, getting out after work and exercising, makes me feel fresher and invigorated. For me, I have found it best to join a group, you know they are going to turn up, you know they are going to leave on time and it will help to keep you committed.
Why not get outdoors and enjoy our beautiful country.
Loving the daffodils photo Trish. And you are soooooo right...maybe I can join some of your walks when we are back city side soon.
