We had a family gathering in Taupo and for those members that were interested in a walk, I suggested walking from Spa road to Huka Falls return. We met in the carpark off Spa Road. It was about 9.00am, in early June so was still a little chilly at that time of the day. However the sun was out and it didn't take long to warm up once we got walking.
The Huka Falls make up part of the Waikato River. This track winds it way along the river, providing lovely scenic views of the river, bush to admire and also the well-know Huka Lodge to check out. The walking track is well formed and easy to walk.
It is quite exciting as you get nearer the falls, I love the way you can see how the river starts moving faster and faster and then you hear the sound of the rushing water as you get nearer the falls. You can feel the power of nature as you watch the water tip over the falls and you can only imagine being sucked under and swirled around. I have seen the Huka Falls several times and they never disappoint. If you are lucky enough the Huka Jet may appear and thrill people onboard with close views of the Falls.
We did this walk at a leisurely pace enjoying the views and bush along the way. You will need to allow up to 2 hours to complete this walk at a relaxed pace. Don't forget to take your togs and towel as near the Spa Road entrance, there are thermal pools to enjoy.
